Photoperiod vs autoflower growing basicsUpdated 2 months ago

Photoperiod strains

  • Light control: Veg under 18 hours of light, then switch to 12 hours of darkness to start flowering.
  • Pros: Flexible veg size, training friendly, high yields.
  • Consider: Longer total time than autos and strict dark periods during flower.

Autoflower strains

  • Light: Flower by age. Many growers run 18–20 hours of light from start to finish.
  • Pros: Fast cycle and simple scheduling.
  • Consider: Limited training window and smaller plants on average.

If your goal is maximum control and yield, pick photoperiod. If you want speed and simplicity, pick autoflower.
